Guests can choose to experience a taste of Balinese culture and history with a visit to one of Bali’s six key temples, Uluwatu Temple. Locally known as Pura Luhur Uluwatu (with Luhur meaning ‘something of divine origin’) this is one of the most popular spots if you are embarking on a cultural journey of the region and provides a true slice of Balinese culture.
Perched atop a steep cliff approximately 70 meters above the crashing ocean below, it makes for the most beautiful backdrop of Bali. Following on from Uluwatu temple, guests will also visit Gunung Payung Temple. Upon entering the sacred area of the temple, you will see the beautiful natural scenery of the blue sea and learn more about this scared space.
Helpful Notes:
As this is a continuing place of worship, respect to the religious customs should be upheld. Inside the temple itself, both men and women should wear a sarong, scarf or sash tied around the waist. A sarong and sash are provided inside the grounds, and you can borrow one for free.

Please note this is a long day of travel. Transfer time from Four Seasons to the first stop on the tour is approximately 1 hour.
Transfer time from Ubud to return to the Four Seasons is approximately 2 hours.
Ubud has long been known as the cradle of Balinese culture and arts. While the area has been attracting Europeans since German artist Walter Spies fell in love with Ubud in the 1920s, Elizabeth Gilbert’s 2006 bestselling memoir Eat Pray Love certainly helped catapult Ubud into world fame.
Today, the area attracts a vibrant mix of digital nomads, expats, yogis, and spiritual explorers. The centre of town has grown busy, and you will find the bustling streets lined with health food cafes, art galleries, yoga studios, restaurants, spas, and boutiques.
Though things have certainly gotten a lot busier, Ubud has still retained its artistic flavor. Boutique shops display Bali’s famous craftsmanship and work from local artists. Hindu architecture and peaceful temples compensate for increased consumerism with an air of ancient authority.
Start your day with a visit to the Celuk (1hr 45 min drive from the Four Seasons) where people specialize in silver artifacts. Batuan Village is home to many artistic painters and Mas and Kemenuh villages, famous for its wood carver traditions.
Continue to the elephant cave, Goa Gajah. The cave was built in the ninth century and was completed by a spa dating back to the 1950s.
A short visit to the Monkey Forest – home to sacred monkeys on the island – and then drive to Ubud to visit the local market and Ubud palace. The royal family still lives in the palace and at night the garden is used for staging some of Bali’s most important dances, such as the Legong Dance, Barong Dance, Ramayana and Mahabrata ballets.
Helpful Notes:
The transfer times for this tour are long – please be aware of this if you choose to join the tour.
